Tour Overview
The Machame route has earned its title as the most picturesque climbing route globally, thanks to its breathtaking vistas of Mount Meru and the awe-inspiring ascent along the Barranco wall, among other scenic highlights. What adds to its allure is the meticulously maintained hiking trails, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable journey for climbers. Moreover, trekkers on the Machame route are treated to extended views of Kilimanjaro, as the path to the summit differs from that of the descent.
Ascending via the Machame route typically spans six days, although opting for a seven-day itinerary allows for proper acclimatization, enhancing your chances of summit success. We highly recommend this additional day, during which you’ll hike from Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp. With this adjustment, day five of the Machame route aligns with days five and six of the Lemosho route, optimizing your acclimatization and ultimately increasing your odds of reaching the summit safely.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro Int. Airport for your climb
When you arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport our guide will be there waiting for you. He will will drop you off at your hotel, where you can relax from your flight. Preparation for your climb: You will meet your guide before the beginning of your climb. He will brief you and give you details, like what to wear, what to put in your backpack and other important tips to make the climb as comfortable as possible for you.
Day 2: Machame Gate (1,800 m/ 5,905 ft) - Machame Camp (3,000m/ 9,840 ft)
Day 3: Machame Camp (3,000m/ 9,875 ft) to Shira Camp (3,840m/ 12,600 ft)
Day 4: Shira Camp (3,840 m/ 12,600 ft) - Lava Tower (4630 m/ 15,190 ft) - Barranco Camp (3,960m m/ 12,992 ft)
Day 5: Barranco Camp (3,960 m/12,992 ft) to Barafu Camp (4,640 m/15,223 ft)
Day 6: Barafu Camp (4,640 m/ 15,100 ft) - Uhuru Peak (5,895 m/ 19,340 ft) to Millennium Camp (3,820 m/ 12,532 ft)
Day 7: Millennium Camp (3,820 m/ 12,532 ft) - Mweka Gate (1,650 m/ 5,380 ft) - Hotel
The Millenium camp is located in a tropical rainforest. When you wake up today, you will experience a pleasant feeling due to the reduction in altitude and the satisfaction of reaching the summit. After breakfast you take an easy walking to the park exit.
Your driver will bring you back to the hotel for a well deserved rest!
